amazing

I just watched the most amazing fashion show at Paris fashion week. On youtube of course, although if I had been there I probably would have screamed because I got shivers just from watching it.

It was the Thierry Mugler Autumn/winter 2011-12 collection at Paris fashion week. It was stylist of the moment Nicola Formichetti's first womanswear collection for the Mugler brand, and it didn't disappoint.

The collection focused on on the sex symbol silhouette, mixing pvc latex and rubber with dramatic shoulders, see through bustiers and using the pencil skirt to create a really interesting look. The look of the catwalk added to the atmosphere and feel of the show, it was designed to resemble a futuristic Gothic Cathedral, the models weaved in and out of the pillars disappearing in to the darkness. I love the design of the catwalk, much more interesting than just a long runway. It felt like a lot of effort was put in to all the aspects of show, it all represented the new collection - the catwalk design, the makeup & hair, the music and the styling all worked together to showcase Mugler's gothic yet sexy designs.

Gaga also made her catwalk debut for Formichetti. Wearing a pvc pencil skirt, pvc heel-less boots, 3ft ponytails in her hair, smoking a cigarette and an air of attitude that spoke volumes, she represented the collection as a whole. The collection was
sexy, daring, provocative but I think still had a vibe of an old school glamour. I loved how the models and Gaga sang along to her track 'Born this way' as they strutted
the catwalk, purred to the audience and looked they were having fun in the designs.
I can definitely see how the rocky horror show could have influenced this collection. The provocative nature of the show, the black see through bras, the pvc latex and rubber, the dramatic dark eye makeup and the sexy animalistic attitude the models had all remind me of the film.
Daring, risky, scary to some but definitely grabs your attention.

A guest at the show said Gaga's appearance made Anna Wintour smile. It must have been a good show...

She is the only authority on frocks left in the world!

It's interesting looking back at the history of fashion, in a recent lecture we got given key notable figures that have shaped the way fashion, design and photography is today.

I find the most interesting are the true eccentrics. The figures that have no fear, they're bold and brassy and give their opinion without an inch of doubt.
Anna Piaggi is a character. She conceptualizes fashion as an art form not an industry. She's been around for years, writing for Italian Vogue and being an all round fashion icon. Manolo Blahnik calls her "modern beyond belief", which I find interesting, for her to still be modern and relevant today says a lot about her quirky fashion sense and how much influence she has in fashion. She herself has commented on what she feels fashion must be, "Fashion must relate to the moment. It has to be immediate."
I love the fact that if a random person saw on her on the street, they could misplace her as a crazy old lady who dresses 'weird', yet to the world of fashion she is an authority.

"And as we set out to lunch, she shrugs on her new Pucci jacket by Christian Lacroix, perches a tiny little straw trilby on the top of her head, pulls on her bright-blue fishnet fingerless gloves, takes hold of her funny, child's walking cane, and she's complete. And I think Blahnik is right. She is modern. Looking at her is like surfing 40 TV channels at once. She's electric. And off she trips, down the stairs, in a world all her own."
