Faux leather jacket, Topshop, £58
Alcohol Coffee Nicotine Tee, Urban Outfitters
Black Maxi skirt, H&M
Cross ring, Regal Rose, £11
Turquoise & silver ring from Spain

I seem to be doing a lot of purchase posts lately, which I probably shouldn't be, actually no, I know I shouldn't be because I have very little money until my student loan comes in. This faux leather jacket went straight on to my credit card..oops. I love it though, the faux fur collar which is removable and the zips and buckle detailing which makes it just a little bit more special. These are just quick photographs taken, so excuse the quality. To make me feel a little better, I did use my student discount, so the jacket was only £52, which I think is a bargain. Plus leather jackets are always a staple piece in your wardrobe, the trend is always coming back round again. And I love how you can remove the faux fur to take the jacket from winter to summer, day and night. Brilliant. See? It's practically 4 outfits in one, hurray for guilt free spending!

Sass & Bide
Spring/Summer 2012

Christopher Kane LFW

Loved his S/S 2012 collection. It featured heavy floral prints, embellished blouses and shirts and cut out detailing. It's so great to see British talent rising through the ranks. My favourite is the plastic patterned shift dresses, like the blue flowered one shown above. I love the different tones of blue, it's like summer in one dress. The girlie prints were juxtaposed with the sharp shapes and tailoring, which just made it more interesting to watch down the catwalk, (wish I was there!). The bright colours were paired with metallic pastel tones of pale green, pretty pink and greys. I love seeing a collection that is beautiful but still look so wearable, and that's the beauty of Kane's work, he manages to balance it all. Even all the models were wearing flats instead of the usual sky scraper heels, which I loved too. It made the collection feel summery, laid back but still elegant. Christopher Kane, I salute you!

Work experience

Being a Fashion student, I know how vital work experience is. Everyone says it, I've heard it enough times from my tutors, and I know it's a big deal. It kinda only hit me recently that I'm going to graduate with a good degree (hopefully) but I will need something to set me apart from the thousands of other fashion hopefuls turning up to interviews. When you think about the scale of students graduating and searching for jobs it suddenly seems very daunting. Will I be able to find a job? Now, I'm a worrier and a stress freak anyway so this does not sit well with me.

Having only a retail job under my belt, I recently started to see what kind of interns/work experience opportunities are out there. Not living near London is such a pain, but I have found some great PR and marketing companies with offices in Liverpool and I can always travel and stay in a cheap place for a week or two! I'm now really excited to get my CV out there and experience the different jobs within Fashion. I want to try everything and see what I like, and what I'm good at!

During this search online, I noticed a lot of websites advertising for bloggers/writers to contribute to their online magazine/Blog. I thought this was a great experience to write for someone else and to get experience of writing to a deadline. I'm currently in the middle of writing my first post, which is so exciting! The website I'm writing for has over 150 bloggers, all covering Fashion, news, celebrities and trends.
Their blog is on their main website, http://www.handbagfairy.co.uk/, which sells handbags and accessories. They only started in 2009 but have already won Online Entrepreneur of the year in 2011 and appeared in Marie Claire and Heat. I'm really excited to just write on a regular basis and gain experience of fashion writing, especially when some one else has to okay it before its published!

I also wrote to a few other online magazines, and have jotted down contact details of companies based in Liverpool, so hopefully I can soon be on the work experience ladder and be writing about all my new experiences.

Fashion through the eras

Found this video on Youtube. I love it, a really clever and fun way of showing how fashion's changed through the era's. From the retro 60's to the ridiculous 90's, all the way through to the present. Westfield Shopping centre made the video to celebrate 100 years of East London style.

purchases

I did a post recently on a few items which I bought, and they were finally delivered this week! Here are a few photos showing the cross ring and the bracelet/ring armour, both from the website regal rose. The ring armour is really nice on, the ring is adjustable and you can choose the bracelet size. It is a little big around the wrist but it still looks good on, I've been wearing it non stop and showing it to anyone I can! The other ring shown is from a random shop which I found in Spain. I love the shape of the ring and the twirl effect.
My trip to Amsterdam was amazing, had such a fun time with my friends, seeing all the sights of Holland's capital City. I will be uploading photos from the holiday soon!

At the very early hours of the morning I am jetting off to Amsterdam for a weekend trip with two of the girls. I am so excited to see all the culture, the red light district, the smoking cafe's, Anne Frank's house, the beautiful canals, to name but a few. Definitely going to take a few snaps of the city and all the adventures I get up to. I better start packing...

Ear Cuffs

Riverisland ear cuff seen on style crusader

I've seen so many of these during recent months and I can see why, they're gorgeous. They come in all different shapes and sizes, some jewelled and extravagant, while others are more vintage are worn. While searching for them, apart from the obvious high street sellers such as Topshop and Asos, there are a lot of online jewellery stores that have beautiful, intricate and great quality earrings. I've come across a few sites which I love and I am very tempted to buy the following items..

I just bought a really cute climbing man which you can wear anywhere on your ear. How fun is it? Made me laugh so I decided to buy it on ebay for only about £7 including p+p!

Also purchased is this beautiful hand armour which loops around your wrist and finger. It's from a new website I literally just found, although I don't know why I haven't heard it before as it's been featured in everything, from Instyle, Fabulous to Heat magazine! Go visit the site, they have some gorgeous pieces and most are under £20! I love bargains.
Will definitely have to take some photographs of what it looks like when it arrives, I can't wait!

Even Barbie bruises

All images from Tyler's website which can be found here

Tyler Shields revealed these photographs a few days ago showcasing Glee's Heather Morris with a bruised face, posing on an ironing board and holding an iron, in what I think is meant to be some kind of ironic housewife image. The Photographer has now been criticised (and received death threats...) by many who think these images are too controversial. On his own website where he posted the images, one person wrote, "So wait, are we glamorising bruises/abuse now?". And I think to a certain extend many people have the right to be outraged, from a general public view, the image of Heather looking directly in to the camera with a bruised eye is somewhat disturbing, yet at the same time extremely beautiful. From the world of fashion, where boundaries are made to be pushed, the images are playful, with the tying up of the hands and the cheeky expressions used. No one can ever be sure what the photographers inspiration or theme was behind the shoot, we can only look at the end result and cast our opinion, and I think that is where it gets difficult because we all, individually, have our own slant on the image we're analysing. For me, I think the shoot is neither clever or glamorising abuse. For the majority of the photographs take away the black eye and all you have is a beautiful girl posing to the camera. My favourites are the 2nd and 5th photographs, I love the lighting of the black and white image, the shadow cast on the floor and the elegant, almost surreal pose she manages to hold. Both images have nothing to do with causing controversy or trying to be edgy, it is to put it simply, beautiful photography. Debate will no doubt continue to go on, since the photographs were published however, Tyler has issued an apology and this..

“However we do have people talking, so I will auction off three photos for $100,000 each and I will give every penny to charity if they sell.

“So if you are anti-domestic abuse spread the word about it. Threatening to kill me is not going to help anything.”

No matter what you think about his photographs, you can't disagree with him there.

wishlist

I've done quite a few posts about the online store nastygal because I absolutely love it. I got a blazer, bandeau and a necklace from the site not too long back and I've been wearing them none stop over summer. I've seen some lovely items on the website that I need (when my student loan comes in..) I've always been a fan of tights and legging with a bit of a difference, and I love the holey mesh legging shown above, they are around £23.40 when converted which I think is a really decent price. I mean they do remind me a bit of rebellious, adolescent teenagers making hole in their tights trying to be quirky and individual but I like them, and you can't help what you like. The next is a leopard tote bag (£35.00) which I think would be perfect for a day bag, especially at university where I have to walk around everywhere with all my crap which I have with me (seriously though, I find the most random things in my bags). Next, is this cosy knitted jumper in a wine colour. It was most definitely the colour that drew my attention to the knit, it reminds me of winter and it looks so warm and easy to wear. You can't really tell from the photograph but it has a long tail hem at the back which makes it a little different than just your ordinary winter knitwear. Lastly, and my no means least are those gorgeous earrings, made by the House of Harlow (Nicole Richie's jewellery line) and priced at a very reasonable £27.00. I love them because they remind me of an old woman's vintage pair of earrings, but the gold spikes in the starburst design gives me a modern, contemporary feeling. I want them all!

Shoe lust

I love Autumn/Winter clothes so much, the layering, the chunky knits, scarf's, gloves and the shoes. The shoes. I love boots. I find they're so much more exciting than sandals or ballet shoes. My friend Cath just bought a gorgeous pair from Aldo the past weekend and I too want to invest in a decent pair to set me through the Autumn and Winter months.

Laughead Leather Boots £110

I'm going to have a snoop around and see what's out there, but I have already seen some really cute Chelsea boots from Topshop. They stock them in Black and Brown and I'm really torn between which ones I prefer. The black, (which are currently sold out anyway) with the silver studs are a lot more classic, the black and silver combination has been done before and I like it, they would go with a lot of outfits. But the brown ones are a little different, I'm loving the brown and silver together and they stand out a lot more than the black.

If I had all the moneys I would buy both, but at
£100 a pair unfortunately that isn't an option. If I bought them I would probably go for the safer option and opt for the black, at £100 I would
want them to be wearable for any outfit and any
occasion, a real staple piece in my Winter wardrobe. I think I many hold back and think a little before I buy anything, I want to really find something which I adore! Knowing me I won't have decided on anything until next winter!

style

In Liverpool City Centre.

For my University summer project, We have to take style photographs on a particular trend. To be honest, I haven't quite picked a trend yet, but these people look too stylish not to be shown.
